RiverView Health operates a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital, RiverView Recovery Center; a chemical dependency outpatient treatment program, RiverView Home Care and five primary care and specialty clinics in the hospitals service area.

Responsibilities

Surgical First Assistant - (PRN)

 

 

Location: Hospital / outpatient
Position Status: Non-exempt; hours worked may be subject to over-time

Schedule: PRN hours

Pay Range: $35.49 - $45.50+ (DOE)

 

RiverView Health has an opening for a PRN Surgical First Assistant. The Surgical First Assistant (PRN) is an advanced perioperative practitioner who provides direct, hands-on assistance to the surgeon during operative procedures. Working under the direction of the operating surgeon, this role is responsible for facilitating safe, efficient, and effective surgical outcomes through skilled intraoperative techniques and clinical judgment.  This PRN position provides flexible, as-needed coverage to support surgical volume fluctuations, staff absences, and service line demands

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary first assistant to the surgeon during surgical procedures.
  • Provide optimal exposure through advanced tissue handling, retraction, and surgical site management.
  • Execute suturing, stapling, and wound closure with precision and efficiency.
  • Assist with dissection and other technical components within scope of training and surgeon delegation.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs to ensure efficient procedural flow.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding procedural progress and patient status.
  • Support adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards.
  • Contribute to a high-performing, team-based OR environment.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and nursing staff.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Applicants must be a graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technologist program.
  • Current American Heart BLS certification. If not, current training will be provided and certification must be obtained within 4 months from date of hire. 

Preferred:

  • Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or equivalent credential
  • Advanced certification (e.g., ACLS)
