RiverView Health operates a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital, RiverView Recovery Center; a chemical dependency outpatient treatment program, RiverView Home Care and five primary care and specialty clinics in the hospitals service area.

Responsibilities

Human Resources Specialist 

 

Location: Crookston - Main Campus
Schedule: Monday - Friday (32 hours/wk) 
Clinic hours: Monday-Friday (8:00am - 4:30pm) 

Pay Range: $26.51 - $37.12 (DOE)

Job Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly, benefitted position

 

The HR Leave Management Specialist is responsible for administering employee leave programs and supporting RiverView Health’s recruitment efforts. This role coordinates all facets of leave administration—including FMLA, ADA, PFML, personal leave, medical leave, and other statutory leave types—while partnering with leaders to coordinate talent acquisition processes through the Applicant Tracking System (ATS). The Specialist ensures compliance, accurate documentation, timely communication, and strong collaboration to promote a smooth employee experience across the organization.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and monitors HR compliance requirements.
  • Administer all types of employee leaves including FMLA, ADA, PFML, personal, medical, military, education, and other statutory leaves.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for employees and leaders throughout the leave lifecycle, ensuring timely communication and compliance with required steps.
  • Review, process, and track leave requests; maintain accurate documentation and ensure confidentiality.
  • Partner with third‑party administrators (where applicable) to coordinate approvals and certifications.
  • Provide guidance to leaders on leave timelines, job protection rules, eligibility, and return‑to‑work requirements.
  • Maintain required records and reports in accordance with legal and organizational retention standards.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to protected leave programs.
  • Support employees and managers in understanding leave policies and procedures.
  • Assist in job postings within the ATS, ensuring accurate and engaging position information.
  • Assist in the screening of applicants and support hiring managers throughout the selection process.
  • Assist in maintaining ATS data integrity, workflow accuracy, and reporting settings.
  • Identify process improvements to enhance recruitment efficiency and candidate experience.

 

General HR Support:

  • Assist with employee relations, policy interpretation, and compliance questions as needed.
  • Support HR documentation, reporting, and special projects.
  • Participate in initiatives related to performance management, employee engagement, and organizational culture.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational values and confidentiality expectations.

Qualifications

Minimum(s):

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree is Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Two+ years of direct HR experience

Preferred(s):

  • SHRM, PHR, or HRCI certification
  • HRIS/HCM system experience
  • One+ years’ experience working in a healthcare environment
  • Experience in leave administration (FMLA/ADA or equivalent)
  • Direct experience working in an ATS (any major platform)

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of federal and state leave laws.
  • Working knowledge of HR compliance standards.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with HRIS/ATS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret policy and apply it to real‑world scenarios.
